Representing a victim of repeated injury, home invasion, and assault by an ex-boyfriend.

■ Case Overview The client had been subjected to ongoing violence and stalking by her ex-lover. In particular, she was subjected to a serious physical assault, followed by a home invasion. This was followed by a series of secondary victimizations, including an assault at her workplace. She sought our help to prevent further harm. ■ Case Issues There were three key issues in this case: First, it was necessary to prove the intentionality of the residential invasion. The defendants argued that there was implied consent based on their past relationship, but it was necessary to prove that they broke into the common entrance, which was equipped with a fully automatic security device. Second, it was important to secure proof of assault and injury. To do so, it was necessary to prove the consistency and specificity of the client's statements, secure objective evidence such as medical certificates and photographs, and secure statements from third-party witnesses. Third, it was necessary to prove the credibility of the client's statements.
